PHP-GTK2 Unix Installer

Thu8Nov2007

One problem we still face is the lack of binary packages for PHP-GTK2 in Linux distributions. I was starting to build an Ubuntu 7.10 package last night and got about half way done and thought... "eh screw this I never even use Ubuntu". For this reason I have focused my efforts on writing a Universal installer that will work on any Linux distribution. Not only that, but FreeBSD and Solaris as well.

Goals: It should Just Work, and as easily as possible.

I need help from people to test it. I only have so many computers and operating systems here. If you use it please report back, no matter if it worked well for you or not. The only real problem that I can think of would be the portability of the actual library, but so far that has not been a problem. I have only been able to personally test KateOS 3.6, Ubuntu 7.10, FreeBSD 6.2 and Solaris 10.

I have downloads and detailed instructions over on my on my tutorial site.

In other news, my compiling how-to made it into the phpdeveloper.org feed. Not that that really means anything special, but it still is hell cool and makes me feel warm and fuzzy inside.
